Going after that Big Labor union backing that she swears abuses the workers! She and they make strange bedfellows…must run in the family.
U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton will court the labor vote Saturday in her first visit to Michigan since becoming a candidate for president.
The AFL-CIO gave the top seven Democratic presidential candidates a list of 15 cities to choose from for town-hall meetings leading up to the labor organization’s endorsement later this year.
Clinton, D-N.Y., chose Detroit, a city with a huge labor presence fed by the auto industry. About 900 union members are expected to attend the by-invitation-only event at 10 a.m. at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union hall in Detroit.
While the AFL-CIO endorsement helps, the strength of the union’s organization is even more essential for a candidate. More than 205,000 AFL-CIO volunteers made 30 million campaign phone calls on behalf of Democratic candidates and knocked on 8.2 million doors before the 2006 elections, which turned into a Democratic landslide.
Landslide? That’s too much. Their first political victory in decades and they call it a landslide. How trivial and wrong. Landslide? THIS is a landslide.
